Harvesting Turmeric

October 04, 2015, I removed the Turmerics in the container because they have grown too big for it.

I planted five pieces of turmerics on this container last February 25, 2015.

It took a while for any sprout to show, there were times that I thought of removing them and putting on another plant instead. One factor was my father's chickens, they were always digging the turmerics, that is why I put a grill on top of the container.

Finally, on May 24, I saw a tiny sprout.

This is how it looks just before I removed them from the container.

And this is what I harvested from it.

I think the dark ones are the ones that I have planted back in February, but I am not sure.  I got one per plant of the dark ones, those with a lighter color, I got from the biggest plant.

That was more than seven months.  Maybe I needed to wait much longer for a bigger harvest.

After removing these turmerics, I replanted the plants, I hope they would survive and bear more turmerics.

This is the biggest, the others, I planted in other containers.

Liam's Aquatic Farm (Day 10)

September 26, 2015, first tank heavy cleaning.
The overhead filter and the mini corner filter was not able to make the water clearer, probably because the water was too murky already, and the Tilapia poops so much (eheheh).

I removed three-fourths of the water while sucking the poops with this hose.

This is how it looks after I refilled it.

It is not yet as clear as I wanted it to be, but this will do.

This is the mini corner filter that I have, I think I should get a bigger one.

I saw two fingerlings that got too stressed when I changed the water, unfortunately, they did not survive the night, I saw them floating the next morning.

I will try to make it a habit to replace at least a bucket of water a day while sucking the poops out. Hope this will make the thank clean longer.

Liam's Aquatic Farm (Day 3)

September 19, 2015, just the third day of our Fingerlings in the tank, you could already see that the water is already greenish.  I really should have installed the overhead filter before I have put the fingerlings eheh.

I was able to clean the two 20 gal tanks today, I have also installed the overhead filter in the big tank, I hope that it can still make this water clearer, will soon find that out.

Take a look at the fingerling.

Beautiful...

Liam's Aquatic Farm (Day 1)

September 17, 2015 - 50 pcs (the seller told me that he added 15 pcs more) of Red Tilapia Fingerlings have arrived.

The plan was to go first to Robinsons Imus for my NBI Clearance (office/job requirement), then go to Bacoor to pick-up the fingerlings, unfortunately, the NBI office was close, and a notice was posted in the door that I have to go to NBI Dasma or Tagaytay or its main office.   So we went to Bacoor to get the fingerlings before we went back to Robinsons Dasma for the NBI Clearance.

It took us awhile to get the Clearance (4 hours), and we hurriedly went home.  But they were in the bag for too long, and some of then did not make it.

Six were already goners and few in very critical condition.

Anyway, here they are in their new home.

That's my son, Liam.

Liam's Aquatic Farm (start)

September 16, 2015, for a whole day, I cleaned the tanks (1 x 90 gal, and 2 x 20 gal).  Getting them ready for the Tilapia fingerlings.  Well, I really only manage to clean the big one.

I never thought that cleaning them would take that long, but I did endure :-)

And here is the product of my labor.

Tomorrow, 50 pcs of Red Tilapia Fingerling will make this thank their home, hope they would like it :-).

Back to Basil

Had tried a few years back to grow this plants from seeds.  Had some success, but had more failures.

Then I saw a video that this can be grown by cuttings.

and putting it in a vase,

Like in the picture above.  Had been doing this for quite some time now, and I am able to grow them nicely.
